Why | To regenerate a neglected town centre
What | Team management; process and events planning, communication, strategy
Where | Wood Green, London, The United Kingdom (9 ha)

Soundings and Fluid have been commissioned by Haringey Council to develop and deliver the Wood Green Investment Framework [WGIF]. The WGIF is a comprehensive plan for the area that sets out how the Council will deliver a better town centre, housing, and connections including the arrival of new Crossrail 2 stations.

A project identity and visual language applied across various media and a centrally located empty shop unit was turned into an information space, event venue and temporary community hub.

Alongside these street surveys, pop up street events in areas of large footfall took the guise of a mobile lounge with passers by invited to sit on sofas out in the open and talk to the council officers, design team and Soundings staff about their aspirations for Wood Green’s Future. Local resident’s groups led walk and talks around the area, highlighting the positives and areas in need of improvement.

Following the comprehensive mapping of local community assets, stakeholders and amenity groups a Community Liaison Group has been formed to act as a sounding board for the Council and design team at critical stages of the project.

Through all these events we have amassed a database of over 500 local residents who we remain in contact with throughout the process.

As Wood Green is a primarily shopping area we have also held regular meetings with local business and attended businesses forum meeting and networking events. Bespoke questionnaires and events have been designed to receive their input and opinions. We’ve also organised specific events for directly impacted residents and particular groups such as young people, disabled residents, Turkish community members and local artists…

We have hold regular meetings with Council officers and Ward Councillors to ensure they are informed of the project’s progress, can input their views and to utilise their extensive local networks to encourage greater participation and ensure representation from local people.
