With the ‘Dutch Cycling in London’ project and an informative and satirical website, I want to point at the differences between London’s cycling style and the Dutch cycling way and hopefully make an impact on London transport landscape. Website here: https://dutchcyclinginlondon.com/

Riding a bike the Dutch way is, not only green, healthy, clean, time-efficient and fun, but also social, safe, affordable, practical, laid-back, supporting local economies, comfortable and for everyone – from kids to elders.

I am the initiator of the project and supported by Academy of Urbanism Young Urbanists. I ran an extensive comparative research on the difference existing between London and the Netherlands in terms of cycling behaviours, infrastructure design and policies. Satirical infographics illustrate some of these differences. Next ones are in the making.

A workshop was held and let participants spot differences.

Videos explain how the Dutch fought for their lanes and what it feels like to cycle in the Netherlands.

Website visitors can rate project ideas to make quick improvements. Projects include pop-up lanes, cycle lease for students, trips to the Netherlands, chic cycling postcards and an app to report street design difficulties.
