WOOD GREEN, Town Centre Regeneration

Soundings and Fluid have been commissioned by Haringey Council to develop and deliver the Wood Green Investment Framework [WGIF]. The WGIF is a comprehensive plan for the area that sets out how the Council will deliver a better town centre, housing, and connections including the arrival of new Crossrail 2 stations.

A project identity and visual language applied across various media and a centrally located empty shop unit was turned into an information space, event venue and temporary community hub.

Alongside these street surveys, pop up street events in areas of large footfall took the guise of a mobile lounge with passers by invited to sit on sofas out in the open and talk to the council officers, design team and Soundings staff about their aspirations for Wood Green’s Future. Local resident’s groups led walk and talks around the area, highlighting the positives and areas in need of improvement.

CLOVELLY ROAD, Better Block Event

The Better Block team, famous for their tactical approach, travelled twice to Australia in 2013 to share their method. Australians have been listening! Phil Stubbs, media educator, initiated Clovelly Road Better Block, 4th in the country, 1st in Sydney and made it work thanks to Facebook. The purpose was to transform for a day the shopping strip of Clovelly Road and make it greener, safer and human – by slowing traffic and adding trees, tables, chairs, art, music, food and more life in general. It has been a great success as about 3000 people – both from the local community and civic leaders – attended the event.
