The Better Block team, famous for their tactical approach, travelled twice to Australia in 2013 to share their method. Australians have been listening! Phil Stubbs, media educator, initiated Clovelly Road Better Block, 4th in the country, 1st in Sydney and made it work thanks to Facebook. The purpose was to transform for a day the shopping strip of Clovelly Road and make it greener, safer and human – by slowing traffic and adding trees, tables, chairs, art, music, food and more life in general. It has been a great success as about 3000 people – both from the local community and civic leaders – attended the event.

The Staatsliedenbuurt in Utrecht is a neighbourhood in transition. Social housing from the last century have been dismantled to let room for more modern and qualitative housing. Only… the new buildings take long to come and it is now several years that there is a large empty spot in the middle of the neighbourhood. Architecture centre AORTA has had the good idea to ask few designers to imagine temporarily uses for this area with the inhabitants. Continue reading

Thanks to many universities and schools, Lille is one of the biggest students’ city in France. Therefore the city offers a lot of small basic studios. But recently several short trainings for professionals and graduated developed too. Those older students or starters have problems to find apartments that suit their needs.
