VIV’AMSTEL 3, Revitalised Business Park

Why | To revitalize an outdated business park
What | Team building, process management, concept, design, implementation plans
Where | Amstel, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
With | COLOKi + Esther de Graaf (Plein06) + Dennis Hauer (NL Ingenieurs) + Anna Vlaming

Amstel III is an outdated business park. Approximately 30 % of the office area is structurally vacant, ownership is fragmented, investment climate has deteriorated. The area is dominated by cars and is dead at night. I put together an interdisciplinary team to submit a comprehensive proposal to the Europan competition organisation.

We imagined a strategy that will slowly change the area into a full urban district with housing, new types of working places, retail, leisure and local facilities. ‘VIV’Amstel 3’ is the new healthy neighbourhood to live in Amsterdam. Like an organism, it will develop gradually, from its centre to its edges and smartly reach its maturity.

BYE BIKES, Shared Station Square

Why | To solve bikes parking problems + unlock the square’s potential
What | Multi-analysis + process design + placemaking inspiration + masterplan sketch
Where | Amersfoort, the Netherlands
Who | For One Planet

I have been asked, together with partners from Zooow! Building Formats and Hogeschool Utrecht to help start the integral and sustainable improvement of the station square in Amersfoort. Very typical issue in the Netherlands: bike parking. There is not enough and it is not leaving any space on the square for other activities like dwelling, sitting, meeting, relaxing, waching performances or eating and drinking.

RIJNLANDROUTE, Integrated Way and Park

Why | To unblock a project by showing to citizens the new infrastructure can also be positive
What | Multi-analyze + vision + strategies + masterplan + concepts
Where | Leiden, the Netherlands
With | ABL2

Rijnland way is planned to unclog the western part of Leiden. It is running through fields and residential areas. Many residents are concerned and against the project. How to create a WIN-WIN situation?

Three design principles:
1. An easy and smooth way for an efficient flow (from A to B)
2. A route that creates qualitative places for residents and upgrades the environment.
3. A beautiful route that also creates financial value.

We have developed a vision to create added value instead of negative effects: “A continuous scenic route through the Rijnlandse (Rhenish) landscape that is a base and a connection to/for recreational activities for residents.”

The highway tuns into a park with numerous leisure facilities, walkways, cycling routes, beautiful landmarks and connections to the nearby rural and aquatic landscapes.
